Xcel Energy Project Information Notes: (Same as in the image above for Screen Reader Benefit)
Project Overview:
Xcel Energy is building a more modern, resilient grid to reliably power our communities. This commitment includes replacing infrastructure reaching the end of its useful life.
Xcel Energy plans to replace the 60-year-old distribution system serving residential and commercial customers in the Del Norte area, from a 4 kilovolt (kV) distribution system to a 25 kilovolt (kV) system, to adhere to national industry safety regulations and current wildfire construction standards.
The project allows us to deliver the energy you depend on and will:
•Proactively minimize wildfire risk
•Improve electric power service reliability and safety
•Harden the system to handle existing weather conditions with more resiliency
•Meet the growing energy needs of customers in the town of Del Norte
•Enhance our system technology to achieve a smarter, more responsive grid
This project will build a new 25 kV line above the existing 4 kV system, until the cutover is complete, when at that time the original line will be removed. The project will also reconductor approximately 16 miles of the two existing 25 kV feeders.
Project Details:
•Approximately 384 new poles will be installed•Pole heights will range from 35 to 60 feet•New equipment will include switches, transformers and fusing devices•In areas where buildings are in close proximity, poles will be realigned as an ongoing safety improvement
Project Timeline and Impacts:
The project will begin March 2025, and is estimated to be complete by May 2026. Customers will experience periodic outages as the new system is built and cutovers are completed.
We know outages are an inconvenience, and we will make every effort to help the community be prepared and plan accordingly. The project team will work with the town of Del Norte to post planned outages ahead of time on the town’s website. Additionally, Xcel Energy will make every effort to contact customers—those who have provided their phone number to us and given us permission to call them—to provide advance notification of these planned outages. Xcel Energy’s contractor will also place notices on residents’ and businesses’ doors 24 hours prior to outage
